What will happen when hell burns our feet?
workshop by Jorge Manilla
Jorge Manilla Navarrete is the Professor of Metal and Jewellery Art at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts.
"A lot of questions raise in my mind when I think about the future in our field. What is important for us? What we are talking about? How are we using the art jewellery field as a medium of communication and expression? For me the art jewellery field is the point where intellect, practice and magical interact at the same time. In my every day practice I notice that contemporary jewellery makers are looking for the real value of the works and materials, especially when those materials don’t have a specific high economical value. I like to think about the relationship between the materials and the maker, I like to give my personality to the materials and help to get transformed and give them a new life and value." J.M.
The starting point of the workshop was for the participants to discover, recognize and translate their own personal identity: ideas, emotions, culture and traditions.
During the creative work the members were able to use these skills to potentiate and hinder our creative processes and identify them, understand them, value them and apply them in conceptualization and execution of a piece of jewelery.
